Two Million Minutes: Preparing US Students for the Global Economy
Joining Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute faculty, students, math and science
teachers, education administrators and business people, Career Communications
Group publisher and CEO Tyrone Taborn called for special emphasis to be given to
providing education and opportunities for underserved, minority populations. Mr.
Taborn was speaking at the screening of Two Millions Minutes, a documentary that
takes a look at how high school students in China, India, and the United States
build intellectual foundation, absorb the fundamentals of math, chemistry,
biology, physics and computer science — knowledge that will broaden or narrow
their career choices—in the 4-year period leading to university.

Study Points to ‘Brain-Drain’ of Skilled U.S. Immigrant Entrepreneurs
More than one million skilled immigrant workers, including scientists,
engineers, doctors and researchers and their families, are competing for 120,000
permanent U.S. resident visas each year, creating a sizeable imbalance likely to
fuel a “reverse brain-drain” with skilled workers returning to their home
country, according to a new report released today by the Ewing Marion Kauffman
Foundation.

NOAA Updates Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook
As we enter the peak months (August through October) of the Atlantic hurricane
season, NOAA scientists are predicting an 85 percent chance of an above-normal
season, with the likelihood of 13 to 16 named storms, with seven to nine
