Countdown to MiRS: featuring Dr. Mobley and Jonathan Abraham

Today, Science Spectrum is pleased to feature Dr. Daphne Mobley and Jonathan Abraham.

Dr. Daphne Mobley has played an integral role in the recruitment of minorities for Wyeth’s research and development division. In May, her dedication to diversity led to her promotion as Vice President of Corporate Diversity. In this role, she is responsible for implementing diversity practices into Wyeth’s businesses and developing the company’s diversity goals. Prior to this appointment, she served as Vice President of Planning.

Dr. Mobley started her career as a cardiovascular researcher at Janssen Research Foundation. She joined Wyeth in 1992 as Manager of Toxicology, Laboratory Animal Resources. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Cornell University and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida. 

Jonathan Abraham began his journey into research science as a high school senior, analyzing the genome of a mustard plant at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, New York. Though Abraham had limited English skills upon moving to the United States from his French-speaking hometown outside of Montreal, he was quick to understand the universal language of science

Since enrolling at Harvard University, Abraham has trained at various laboratories, including those at Harvard and Cornell Medical Schools. After being selected to participate in the National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program, Abraham began training in the laboratory of Dr. Richard Koup in NIH’s Vaccine Research Center.

There, he has investigated the transmission of HIV from dendritic cells to T-cells. Dendritic cells are responsible for initiating a primary immune response, and T-cells are involved in rejecting foreign tissue, regulating immunity, and controlling the production of antibodies to fight infection.
